Welcome to Instagram. A hotbed of gorgeous pictures, pretty landscapes, snappy quotes and engagements hearts of plenty. That is, if you’re doing things right. Instagram is not the be all and end all to getting your brand out there and building relationships through social media. Before setting up an Instagram account for your car sales business, or as an individual car sales professional, your first step is to build a strategy around your business and how it will use this unique social platform to showcase your brand and communicate with people you want to engage with.
An important part of this overall strategy is to list out your core values, who you are, what you represent, and how you are different from everyone else that does what you do. This will be the cornerstone reason and the reason “why” people will be inclined to do business with you.
The final stage of your Instagram Tips for Car Dealers strategy revolves around your unique visual branding. A look and feel that resonates with people, and stands out in the crowd. Think colours, composition and theme.
The Importance of your Instagram Profile
When setting up your Instagram account username, make sure its aligned to your business name (for the car dealer), or your actual name (for the car sales professional). Anyone can do the market research and figure out pricing online, if you want to attract buyers you have to be extra creative to pull people in. This can easily be done using Instagram if you have a strong avatar, a good username and a bio that is not confusing and has really clear and concise information that represent you and your brand. Include a strong and unique call to action with a URL that you can track the effectiveness.
Your Instagram Photos
Getting to the photo aspect of Instagram, think about the city or town you live in. When writing these Instagram Tips for Car Dealers I am sitting gazing at the gorgeous surroundings of the town I call home, I’m sure there are some great locations that have amazing visual potentials around you as well. Lets try and think out side of the car lots. What are the main features of the town or city that use can use to your advantage to draw people to drive in to your location? The visual content in your photo stream as the dealer or sales professional in that dealership should resonate with customers, making them smile, laugh and engage with, sparking them want to visit you and your unique auto dealership.
Here are a few ideas that could resonate and engage viewers and of course, elevate your brand:
- Let customers know something that may seem simple enough about a car’s features; the arrow of which side the gas tank is on, is actually on the dash of the car. A valuable fun piece of content that the majority of the public doesn’t realize.
- Brainstorm simple everyday things that you think everyone knows about a vehicle, but most likely do not, then display it in a fun way. Taking care of your car, oil change tips, waxing, leather treatment.

Instagram as a Creative Outlet
Instagram really appeals to the creative side of the brain. Convey your value creatively and you can easily harness a customer for life from social media interactions. This is a channel that gives you the opportunity to appeal to an audience about the things they are interested in. Just don’t use it the same way you use Twitter. Its not a broadcast outlet. People love to connect with people. Photos are a great way to portray who you are as a person, or who the people are behind your brand. Spontaneous photos of your employees or personal photos of your life are a strong way to connect with your audience!
