A social media checklist makes sure you are delivering the most valuable and actionable social messages to your audience. And of course, engaging!
In order to check off all of these prerequisites, there are a few key steps we have to make sure we have addressed before the “Post Update” button has been pressed:
- Does your target audience care about this message?
- Is the message entertaining or educational? Does it add value
- Is the post/social message well thought out? or is it reactive?
- Is it too long?
- Have you made the most out of your visual content?
- Did you QA? – spell check, url check, keywords, hashtags
Does your target audience care about this message?
Possibly the most important question to ask yourself before posting, does you audience care about the message you are about to send out? Do they have a desire to learn more about this, or be entertained with this social message? Hopefully you know your audience well enough to take an educated guess as to whether they will keep coming back for more if you post this message. If not. do a little research. What if you’re on the fence? Try posting it to see what happens! You’re bound to get some great feedback and analytics!
Is the message entertaining or educational? Does it add value
That message that you are about to post, will it add value to your audience’s life? Make them laugh, think, learn something new? What good is a post if it doesn’t educate, inspire, entertain or add value? Its just noise. And we have a lot of that already.
Is the post thought out? or reactive?
Have you thought about the post before compiling it? Or is it a reaction to what others are saying online? Sit on it for a bit. Do a few quick searches and compose your thoughts before sending something out. After all, this is your personal and professional brand image we’re talking about here.
Is it too long?
Different platforms have different character length requirements. Some platforms also work better with certain character lengths. What platform are you posting on? Know the character lengths and best practices for each.
Have you made the most out of your visual content?
Does your chosen and images that tells the story of the message you are trying to get across? Does the image fit in with the social medium you are posting on?
Did you QA? – spell check, url check, keywords, hashtags
Re-reading and double checking your entry is that final step of perfection with your message delivery. What good is a post if the title is spelled wrong, or the supporting link gives a 404? A few extra minutes can turn good to great!
